Dear Ascension Family,
As you may already know, my name is Eva Barraza! I live in Garland with my husband, Kevin, and my three year old daughter, Siobhan (we call her Minnie). My family and I are so excited to be a part of the Ascension family. When Father Paul posted about this position opening, I felt an overwhelming call to apply. Accepting the position was not only a decision of my own, but one my family prayed over deeply. The call to serve as Director of Christian Formation was there, so who was I to say no?
The day after my high school graduation, I started as a camp counselor at Camp All Saints. It was that summer that I found my faith and heard His call to serve through youth. I was there four summers, each one better than the last. After All Saints, I spent a summer in Alaska serving as an assistant director at a camp up there. I took some time off work after having my sweet daughter and later decided to apply for a position as a full-time director at Paradise Point Episcopal camp in Idaho. As luck would have it, two days later the country shut down. As many others had to do, I found a job completely out of my wheelhouse and ended up working at a glass company for two years.
The past two years have been a great learning experience for me, but I’ve missed working with kids. More than that, I’ve felt like I was ignoring what God called me to do. I am looking forward to sharing my time here with the families at Ascension. My door will always be open to those who have questions. I have a lot to learn about each of the youth here, but I am sure that soon enough, we will all become well-acquainted with each other. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with your children! I look forward to what’s to come this year.
Yours in Faith,
Eva
