How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity! - Psalm 133:1
It was wonderful to see so many of you come together for the Annual Parish Meeting this past Sunday. The room was full of positive energy that continued as we gathered for lunch after worship. Your participation in the life of the church is critical to our work as a parish, so thank you for being there. If you were not able to attend, we have extra Annual Reports available for pickup at the church office. You can also download a copy from our website HERE. Our current and new vestry members met immediately following the Annual Parish Meeting. We elected Andrew Bolt to continue as Junior Warden, Aaron Husman as Treasurer, and Audry Lee as the clerk. I am grateful for their willingness to serve in these capacities in 2023. We also elected three new vestry members including Steven Baker, Katie Dickinson, and Todd Rutenbar. Lastly, Dabney Dwyer and Peggy Wise were elected as delegates to Diocesan Convention. The delegate role is a two-year commitment to allow some continuity in our representation. Three faithful members of our vestry (Julie Baker, Laura Warner Gilmer, and Jonathan March) rolled off this year. Serving as a Vestry member is a significant responsibility a layperson can exercise in a Parish. Nevertheless, this role remains, for the most part, behind the scenes. Julie, Laura, and Jonathan brought many excellent skills to our leadership, but their collective wisdom, affection for Ascension, and experience made them stand out. I'm honored to have served beside them and hope you'll join me in thanking them in person when you see them in the hallways. Lastly, I want to reiterate my encouragement for each of you to discern where you are being called to serve in the year ahead. Many of you are already serving on committees and in ministry, if not, please do consider it. This structure has helped Ascension offer vital ministries to our members and the community around us. If you have questions about specific ministries, feel free to reach out to me. As always, I’d be happy to hear from you. May the indwelling Spirit of God guide our discernment and direct our actions so that day by day we may serve God with all of our hearts and minds.
Blessings -
