Therefore, keep alert, because you don't know the day or the hour. Matthew 25:13
Many scriptures point to the importance of remaining vigilant. Some call us to be aware of God; others remind us of the dangers of the world. Another favorite of mine is included in Compline, "Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith. (1 Peter 5:8-9a)". The global pandemic has likely reminded us all of the need to remain aware.
We have been fortunate to be able to resume many activities as vaccinations became widely available. The news of the Delta Variant is the latest reminder that the pandemic is not over. For the time being, our policies remain. I hope we can all exhibit more caution throughout the week, in an effort to protect ourselves and our entire community.
Continued prayer is also essential. The scriptures are central to our worship in part because they serve as a wise guide to living well. Pray for our leaders, our health care workers, and all people as we are each affected and have a role to play in stopping the pandemic. May God guide us with grace and love in all we do.
Blessings,
Paul
